Check Out Aiptek 3D-HD High Definition 3D Camcorder (Black/Black) for $199.99

Aiptek 3D-HD High Definition 3D Camcorder (Black/Black) Review

Have been playing with camera for 4 days. I'm really impressed with it. I give it top marks based on performance for its price. Is it equal to Panasonic's 3d camcorder at $ 1,200+? Of course, not. But Aiptek always delivers cutting-edge technology at inexpensive prices ahead of the major brands. Perfect? By no means. But, inexpensive, reliable, innovative, and fun. They deliver with sometimes impressive results.

The Pros:
1. Pretty amazing 3d effects, if subject matter is not too close to the camera (forget macros, close-up shots) and you have layers of different objects at different proximity from the camera; foreground, background, and as many things as possible in between.
2. Decent image quality. Not 1080p sharp, but still good for two images laid over each other. I have uploaded footage to Youtube and Vimeo and they look great. Haven't viewed them on the Plasma tv.
3. Decent low light performance. This surprised me. It is always a problem and I usually break out studio lighting for indoor photography at night. But got very good results at night with existing lighting, including still images without flash. Not grainy at all.
4. Battery life extremely good.
5. Simplicity of design and operation

The Cons:
1. 30 frames per second? Don't plan on photographing anything in rapid motion.
2. No image stabilization. Tripod, tripod, tripod. For everything.
3. Software really basic. Maybe too basic.

Happy with purchase. Does the job for under 200 bucks. Fun.

BUY AN AIPTEK 3D-HD CAMERA! IT'S A WOW! - Dr John Brahmin -
WOW!

I've been an aiptek fan for years from their earliest pen cams to my hd camcorder, one of the first to shoot at 60 frames per second.
Aiptek cameras are always easy to use, great amatuer quality photos and videos, great value and price and small enough to put it into your pocket. I've recommended Aiptek to friends who have always been extremely satisfied.

THE NEW AIPTEK 3D-HD CAMERA WILL BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF!!

My best pictures and videos thus far where out at the San Francisco Academy of Sciences. Down in one of the large fishtanks a bright yellow finned fish fell in love with the camera. I think the fish thought the two lens two were eyes and he went courting near the glass. My video (transposed to red/cyan by software) on large screen had the fish floating in the room away dramaticly popping out to the screen ala "Captain EO".

I recommend the camera to anybody who loves gadgets but the best 3D results come with thoughtful composition and luck. Have fun experimening.

The one thing which is very minor is the software conversion so you can use a standard hd tv. It's easy but I'd rather not have to do it.

Buy the Aiptek 3D-HD camera. By Decemeber you'll be taking the most spectacular Christmas picture your family has ever seen.

Good 3-D camera/camcorder; great value - S. Phillips - Las Vegas, NV United States
Having owned and used stereo cameras for two decades, I was skeptical about this one, especially considering the price. However, I'm quite satisfied with it. The stereo stills are excellent, and the video is decent if not spectacular quality. It's very easy to use out of the box. Connection to my 3-D Plasma TV is simple with enclosed cord. Should you want to convert your pics or video to red/cyan anaglyph, you can do so with one click using the software which is included. This is a nice feature for sharing stuff with friends or family who do not have 3-D equipment, as you can just give them a cheap pair of cardboard glasses.

Surprisingly, the autostereoscopic display (no glasses) works pretty well; you can see the depth as long as you hold the unit at a certain angle.

Better digitial 3-D units with more features are also becoming available, but this is a good starter unit if you don't want to spend so much.

Better with the Mystery Firmware Update - Reynato U. Barrera - Austin, Texas USA
After getting over the excitement of a 3D camcorder to support my 3DTV, the disappointment began. There were few, if any, instances where the camera was shooting in the promised 30 Frames Per Seconds. Normally the camera would dip down to 15fps and at that point, I stopped taking the camera with me everywhere I went.

So why the high rating?

I stumbled upon a video on youtube shot with my camera and the title to the video was "Aiptek 3D video with new Firmware" The video looked great and was running at a steady 30fps. After asking a few questions, I discovered that Aiptek's European website had a downloadable firmware that fixed the framerate. Nothing was available in the US site, so after asking a few people who had the firmware if it was safe, I installed it into my camera, and sure enough, my usability has taken a huge turn for the better. For 200 bucks, and with this firmware, the camera is an awesome introduction to the 3D world.
